Can't see any scenario of the Sens landing Nicushkin. I can see a conditional 1st if Spezza resigns.

yup....dont think he wants to be the Number 1 anymore and certainly not in a hockey crazy market....and also probably wants to play for a team that's trying to win and stuff..

If Murray could get the big Russian kid he should offer up Spezza, take half the salary back and add in a sweetener if that is what it takes.

Last year I actually saw him skate right through a Dman to score a goal.

Yep. Don't think he wants to be 'the guy' anymore, also probably wants to play for a decent hockey team, so goodbye all seven Canadian clubs.

Curios on the rangers. Always thought from day 1 they were a stalking horse for Spezza. If Murray took back 1/2 of Spezza's salary and cap hit it would make an enormous difference for Sather.

Lots of players on the Ranger roster that are a great fit for Murray's style.

The whole"throwing Spezza under the bus" take is a really silly take people are taking. The reason this trade is taking so long is because Murray is trying to accomodate Spezza.
They could've handled it the same way the Flyers handled Hartnell ie "hey Scott your not welcome here anymore, we made a trade with the Jackets, sign the waiver please"

I think he would be the number one in St.Louis with Backes taking on more of a checking role.

Spezza wants to go to a team that is knocking on the door now. Not two-three years from now when he will be less effective.

I think Spezza wants to go to a team where he is insulated by another top center. He wouldn't get that in Nashville.

In Dallas they have Seguin to be a 1A with Spezza's 1B. Much better fit for him.

I have always thought that is what was really playing out. Several commentators close to Spezza has confirmed that perspective. I really like the team that is being shaped. I also think that Murray is acting in a responsible manner making some hard choices.

I actually feel sorry for Melnyk. His legacy and finances have been ripped. I do not see this ending well for Mr. Melnyk.

I am not sure Dallas would trade Nichushkin but man if they traded him for Spezza we would be laughing...

I'd trade Spezza (50% retained) + Prince + 2015 2nd for Nicushkin and we'd still be stealing him

Just because they could have handled it poorly in another way doesn't mean that the way that they handled the situation is ok.

hes a first line center...hes an elite talent, there no real disputing that...

he just seems like he wants a change and doesnt want to have to be the number 1 guy....why he wants that change i dont know.

but dont doubt his skill and what he brings, whatever team gets him is going to be a lot better than they were before.

Hjalmarsson/Sharp for Spezza/Methot would ya?

Gives the Hawks some flexibility for next year(Kane/Toews). Sens get some champion vets.
